Our attorneys are members of the Ohio State Bar Association and Columbus Bar Association, are able to practice before the Federal District Court for the Southern District of Ohio and Northern District of Ohio, and are active members of the Community Associations Institute — a national education and advocacy group concerned with all aspects of common interest communities.
Ms. Strohm is a partner with the law firm and has been practicing community association law since 2004. She has the distinguished title of Fellow in The College of Community Association Lawyers (“CCAL”). Fewer than 175 attorneys out of approximately 4,000 attorneys practicing community association law nationwide are CCAL Fellows. Ms. Strohm has extensive experience in all aspects of representation and counsel with community associations and other real estate matters. Ms. Strohm is currently the chair of the Community Associations Institute (CAI) Ohio Legislative Action Committee which focuses on implementing changes in the Ohio Legislature concerning community associations. She is a past board member and chapter president of the Central Ohio Chapter of CAI. She has spoken for the Ohio State Bar Association, the Columbus Bar Association, and is a local, state, and national speaker on various legal topics related to community associations. She has spoken nationally for CAI on topics such as condominium leasing restrictions and gun control issues affecting community associations. Ms. Strohm has published articles for the Columbus Bar Lawyers Quarterly and is a contributing writer for Baldwin’s Ohio Condominium Law book and Baldwin’s Ohio Real Estate Law. Ms. Strohm received her bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University and her J.D. from Capital University Law School.
Mr. Barnes has been practicing law since 2008 and is a partner with the firm. He has an extensive experience in civil litigation, particularly with community associations, which includes various enforcement matters, construction defect litigation, creditors’ and debtors’ rights, insurance coverage disputes, contract disputes, and general business and real estate law matters. He also has experience in commercial and residential landlord-tenant disputes.
Mr. Barnes has been recognized by Ohio Super Lawyers as a 2019 and 2020 Rising Star. Rising Stars are selected by their peers as the top up-and-coming attorneys who are under 40 or who have been practicing for 10 years or less. Only 2.5 percent of the attorneys in Ohio are named to the Rising Stars list each year. He has presented on community association issues for the Ohio State Bar Association and Columbus Bar Association.
Mr. Barnes has served as the president of The Central Ohio Chapter of CAI and has been an active member of its Board of Directors since 2015. He also serves as a Member of the Board of Chapter Advisors for the Phi Gamma Delta chapter at Ohio Wesleyan University. Mr. Barnes received his bachelor’s degree, magna cum laude, from Ohio Wesleyan University and his J.D., magna cum laude, from The University of Toledo College of Law.
Mr. Kanitz has been practicing law since 2008 with experience in civil litigation, creditor’s rights, landlord/tenant, and otherwise representing clients in a wide array of matters, including zoning issues affecting community associations. His particular focus is on providing support and counsel related to community associations. Mr. Kanitz has extensive experience in collections and bankruptcy matters and prior to joining the firm, has represented major lending institutions in more than sixty Ohio counties which makes him particularly well suited for community association counsel and litigation related to collections. Mr. Kanitz has successfully litigated cases with the Ohio District Court of Appeals. He is currently the president of the Central Ohio Chapter of CAI (Community Association Institute) and has been a longstanding member of CAI. Mr. Kanitz is a graduate of the Ohio State Moritz College of Law and received both a master’s and bachelor’s degree from The Ohio State University.
Mr. Terman has been practicing since 2008 with experience in many areas of law including civil litigation, creditors’ rights, landlord/tenant, and community association law. Mr. Terman has extensive experience in bankruptcy and collection matters, and enforcement matters related to community associations. Mr. Terman is also admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. Mr. Terman is a member of Central Ohio Chapter of CAI (Community Association Institute). Mr. Terman is a graduate of the Ohio State Moritz College of Law and received his bachelor's degree
from The Ohio State University.
Mr. Isbel has been practicing law since 2017 with experience in community association, landlord/tenant, estate, bankruptcy, and real estate law. He has extensive experience acting as general counsel for community associations. Some of his work includes drafting and amending government documents and advising on enforcement matters, collections, mediations, and commercial contract negotiations. He is admitted to practice in the State of Florida and the Middle District of Florida, with a temporary license for the State of Ohio pending admission to the Bar. He is a graduate of Capital University Law School and received his bachelor's degree from The Ohio State University. Prior to his legal career, Mr. Isbel worked in commercial finance with a focus on real estate development and commercial lending.
Ms. Knightstep is the firm’s senior paralegal and office manager and oversees the firm's substantial work product flow. She has provided skilled paralegal services in the condominium and homeowner association field for Williams & Strohm for more than 28 years. Tammy is an active member of the Central Ohio Community Associations Institute and is an Ohio State Bar Association Certified Paralegal.
